Our meetings are typically the fourth Tuesday of the month from March to November. <a href=\"mailto:topsham_brunswick@mainedar.org\">Contact <\/a>us for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\" style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 1.25rem;\">DAR Good Citizen Program and <\/span><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\" style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 1.25rem;\">Scholarship<\/span><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\" style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 1.25rem;\">\u00a0Contest<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"comp-m7rqmx93\" class=\"Z_l5lU ku3DBC zQ9jDz qvSjx3 Vq6kJx comp-m7rqmx93 wixui-rich-text\" data-testid=\"richTextElement\">\n<p data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"406\">Each year, the Topsham-Brunswick Chapter, NSDAR, is proud to sponsor the <strong data-start=\"144\" data-end=\"197\">DAR Good Citizen Program and Scholarship Contest.<\/strong> Local high schools select a senior who best demonstrates the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, and that student has the opportunity to write a short essay for the competition.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"408\" data-end=\"658\">Awards are presented at our spring meeting, and winners are chosen based on the essay, academic achievements, activities, and recommendations. The first-place recipient will also move forward for consideration at the state and even national levels!<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"796\">If you\u2019re interested in participating, check in with your school\u2019s Guidance Counselor\u2014they\u2019ll have all the details to get you started.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"796\"><strong>DAR MARKERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"796\">DAR historical markers can be found all across the country, and Brunswick has a few you may recognize \u2014 like the ones at Fort Andross and the Joshua Chamberlain House. Some early markers were even made of wood, and we\u2019re working to confirm which ones still exist. Click for full size.\" width=\"235\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"796\"><strong>GROWSTOWN CEMETERY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"796\">One Saturday in September, our members gathered at Growstown Cemetery to clean historic tombstones. With a little care and effort, we restored many of the markers, and the transformation was remarkable. Held outside in front of the local Veterans Council, members presented a skit commemorating the anniversary of Women&#8217;s Suffrage and the passing of the 19th amendment (ratified on August 18, 1920), giving women the right to vote. While other chapter members (many in costume) held signs supporting suffrage, rang bells and cheered, suffragists Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and journalist Nellie Bly presented their arguments for giving women the franchise. Portraying the opposing side,\u00a0 anti-suffragist J.B.
