He was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War, and commanded the 3rd Lincoln County Regiment, which protected that whole area. Colonel William Jones is buried in the Old Walpole Cemetery in Damariscotta. The marker was unveiled by Miss Gill Marie Russell, age 8, an 8th generation descendant of Colonel William Jones.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:center\">\nCOL. WM. JONES HOMESTEAD<br \/>\nWM. JONES STEPPED ASHORE<br \/>\nWITH HIS PARENTS IN 1730. IN 1747 INDIANS LURKING BEHIND<br \/>\nA BOULDER ON A NEAR-BY FARM KILLED TWO LERMOND WOMEN.<br \/>\nWM. JONES RESCUED BODY OF ONE &amp; RECEIVED A SERIOUS WOUND.<\/p>\n<p>SITE OF WALPOLE GARRISON WHERE SETTLERS FLED FROM<br \/>\nINDIAN ATTACKS, IS JUST SOUTH OF PRESENT BRISTOL LINE.<\/p>\n<p>COL. WM.
